Hi! I'm Afsaneh!
I started taking voice lessons when I was just eight years old in my hometown of Reno, NV. It started off as just one of the many after-school activities my parents signed me up for. Over the years, as I lost interest in other activities, one thing stayed constant: I loved to sing. Since then, I have been performing in front of crowds of 500+ at events like Hot August Nights and TEDx, and writing and producing my own music. Now, as an adult with a BFA in Vocal Performance and Composition from the California Institute of the Arts (CalArts), I am eager to share my passion and expertise with the new generation of musicians.
The most important thing for me as a voice teacher is ensuring my students are using proper and safe vocal technique. A big misconception I hear is that people who sing with bad vocal technique also sound bad, but this is not always the case. Sometimes, singers can sound great while still putting tension on their vocal cords and potentially causing long-term damage. In my lessons, I use a variety of vocal exercises to unlock a powerful and healthy sound. Along with my extensive experience in music, I also have a lot of experience working with kids in various education and caretaking settings, so I know how to teach and keep the attention of your little ones!

Voice Lessons
HOW I TEACH
Everyone learns differently and has a unique voice, which is why I offer private lessons in 30, 45, or 60-minute slots to address each student's individual needs. I have experience singing and teaching a variety of genres, including pop, rock, musical theater, jazz, and more. Usually, I start with a free 15-minute Zoom consultation where we get to discuss your level and goals, and you have the chance to decide if we are a good fit. Then from there, the real fun begins!

I have a space in West Hollywood where I teach all my in-person lessons from.

I also offer online lessons via Zoom for students who feel more comfortable being in their own space. This might be a good fit for you if you are feeling nervous about lessons / singing in front of someone new, or if you have a little one who has a hard time being away from home or family.
